It Seems So Long Ago,

that we were on a nice warm sunny beach,

and having a dip in the sea, but had we known what we were bathing in, would we go swimming in the sea again? the reason I ask is because of a photograph taken by photographer David Littschwager, whilst many of might use the phrase, "I swallowed a mouthful of seawater', the photograph below shows what you will typically ingest swallowing just one drop!

He captured this amazing shot of a single drop of seawater magnified 25 times to reveal an entire ecosystem of crab larva, diatoms, bacteria, fish eggs, zooplankton, and, wait for it, even worms! for a breakdown of what you might swallow the next time you have a dip in the sea, have a look here.

Stan-interesting about beaches and oceans. In 2019 we took Alley's parents to a couple of resorts in Phuket for a week. The tourist season was on and many folks from Europe enjoying the beach and swimming in the ocean.
One day we met the resort manager, a nice man from England. He told us that the Thai government heavily taxed each hotel property, but took the taxes with no improvements to Phuket. He was very frustrated given poor roads etc. He gave another telling example of lack of infrastructure -there is no sewage treatment facility on Phuket, all of the resorts, restaurants, and homes sewer pipes drain directly into the ocean, right along side of the beaches (so the folks swimming in polluted water) We decided to only use the resort swimming pool after hear this news. We walked the beaches but skipped the dip. We wondered how many tourists get sick, and if they new the truth would they be in the ocean? We think not. Thailand being a developing country is need of tax dollars, but like the USA, once paid, no one seems to see any improvements. Sounds like a few top dogs getting rich at the expense of the nation.
It is what it is but if you visit Phuket, may want to stay out of the ocean.
Regards
John and Alley

Dear John and Alley, for many years it was the same in Pattaya, not a single hotel was connected to a swage plant, hopefully things have improved now, but I do not know how to fine out, the UK is the same raw sewage is pumped into the sea daily, it is cheaper for the water companies to pay the fines that treat the sewage, and after all who pays the fines? the consumers, prices are just put up to cover the cost of the fines, just last Sunday,

https://news.sky.com/story/sewage-pumped-into-sea-turns-idyllic-cornwall-cove-brown-in-dramatic-footage-described-as-shocking-12735013#:~:text=Video%20footage%20has%20been%20captured,a%20storm%20overflow%20was%20triggered.

if you can copy and past, and this goes on every day in the UK, and we are supposed to be civilised! best regards, Stan and Diana.
