could be in for a change,
if the collaboration between
PLP Architecture and Cambridge University’s Department of Architecture comes to fruition, they have a plan to build a wooden skyscraper, that apart from the Shard would be the tallest building in London, it is designed to reach nearly 1,000 feet in the air and, if it
goes forward, will be the first timber-framed tower in London and tallest such
structure on Earth,
wood might seem a poor choice of material, especially from the risk of fire, but many
people do not realize that wood can perform better than steel in a
fire, steel heats up and buckles, while wood first loses its water weight, then
chars and resists the flames, will it go ahead? who knows, but with global warming and the attendant influx of new creatures that the cold no longer keeps away I hope the building has good termite protection!
