What Exactly,

are you looking at?


 using a process called photo stacking, you can blend dozens, 

 or even hundreds of photos taken at different focal points and then stitch them together to extend the depth of field,

 making the finished picture look totally in focus, 

a photo stacking program was what photographer Waldo Nell did when he photographed the peacock feathers pictured above using a Olympus BX 53 microscope, by day Nell is a software engineer in Port Moody, BC, Canada, but is fascinated by technology, science, and nature, all of which he merges in his photography practise, you can see more of his work on his flickr page, some of the images are just so stunning, have a look!
