image Christie’s, to save you guessing if you have not already, it is a chandelier, which was bought for just £250 way back in 1960 by British painter John Craxton who was passing by a London antique store when recognized the Alberto Giacometti light fixture as a piece once owned by his late friend and
benefactor Peter Watson, so he bought it, the bronze with golden-brown patina
masterpiece is 53 inches tall and 60 inches wide, fast forward to now, John
Craxton’s estate decide to sell the work, more than a decade after his death,
and for how much? Christie’s estimate is that the fixture will be sold for
around £1.5 - £2.5 million in their February 28 auction, why is it I
never see things like this for sale? But then in the 1960s £250 would have
bought you 50% of a mini or Ford Anglia, so I doubt at age 10 in 1960 I would
have had enough pocket money to buy the chandelier, but you know what I mean, I
never find gems like this, do you?
