but last night I was watching It Ain't Half Hot Mum,
based in the jungles of India, when this morning I came across these two first editions of The Jungle Book & The Second Jungle Book, 1894-5,
published in London by Macmillan and Co.
I had heard of the book of course, but did not realise there was a second book,
as well as the collection of popular Jungle Book tales, the books are complete with the delightful
original illustrations by Kipling's father, John Lockwood Kipling, and others,
the author, Rudyard Kipling, is mostly known for these as well as 'Kim' and the 'Just so Stories', born and raised in India, this provided the
inspiration behind a vast amount of Kipling's writings. He was awarded the
Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907, becoming the youngest ever recipient and
first English language writer to do so,
the illustrations are not only provided by John Lockwood Kipling, the author's father, but also American
artists W. H. Drake and Paul Frenzeny, making this pair a delightful read, they are offered for sale at Rooke Books, yours for just £985.00 the pair, what a great addition to anyone's library.
