walking through the park,
it was a nice sunny morning,
the cherry blossom all but finished, the good news the horse chestnut trees are starting to flower,
and nice they looked in pink,
the wisteria,
still looking good,
we arrived at the station just in time,
and were soon racing towards London,
as we left London Bridge station we looked behind us at the Shard towing into the sky,
a couple of London buses always seem to be parked here,
looking back as we neared the end of the street,
just before we crossed the road,
to Borough Market,
we were early,
normally the place is packed with shoppers and tourists,
the good news,
it was easy to look at the cakes,
that were on offer,
meringues, delicious!
but first breakfast,
so many decisions to make,
and the good news,
no queues!
so it was easy to look at the stalls,
it is the same everytime we come here,
we never really know what to have,
but I am guessing Diana will go for this stall,
I am a bit more traditional,
anyway we carried on looking at what to buy for breakfast and this evening's meal,
this I am guessing would be a favorite stall of Jeff, who loves bread,
and to go with it, some cheese,
a quick browse at the pottery stall,
what we will be buying for tonight,
is some fresh Kentish strawberries,
and we will definitely give some of these white ones a try,
we crossed the road,
passing the fish and chip shop,
we soon arrived at the butchers, where we decided to buy a boned duck leg with quail, chicken and pear stuffing wrapped with bacon for our Sunday roast
and for the following Sunday, a turkey breast parcel with the same stuffing and bacon as the duck,
we also will be buying two each of these, Argentinian chimichurri chicken and Lebanese 7 spiced chicken, we have bought from this butcher before,
but there are so many more,
to choose from,
still not many people here,
we still had not eaten,
and I knew what was at the end of this stall,
so past the shrimps, prawns and langoustines,
to the cold cabinet,
and there they were,
breakfast! a tub of whelks,
Diana chose paella from a nearby stall,
so time to tuck in,
caught in the act!
whilst eating I could not help but notice,
the number of different oysters and sizes for sale,
opposite a queue for the oysters from another fishmonger,
the paella seller where Diana bought part one of her breakfast,
continuing our walk,
we found ourselves,
in the fruit,
and vegetable section,
then in the distance,
a Prosecco spritzer, with peach liqueur,
well it just had to be tried!
as we stopped to try the drink I took a photograph of the stall opposite,
as Diana tried the spritzer,
next to the wine shop,
one selling beer,
the sign says it all,
speciality cheese shops,
are everywhere,
but we decided against cheese today,
although we were tempted by some Turkish delight,
this stall caught my attention,
when I saw these,
heritage tomatoes, next time we are here in the salad season we must try some for a change,
this is the shop where just before Christmas,
we bought the Christmas wreath for our front door,
today, flowers,
lots of them,
next a huge crowd,
standing and sitting,
all eating oysters, this shop must be well known abroad as it was full to capacity with mostly Asian tourists,
opposite the oyster stall, a pub called The Market Trader
and there he is,
in the window,
now for breakfast part two,
the takeaway food aisle was now getting busy,
overlooked by the Shard,
Diana made her choice, some Thai food,
I thought about the pork,
but decided on a salt beef sandwich,
this one with cheese was being prepared for the customer before me,
my turn now,
plenty of pickled gherkins,
lots of meat,
cut in half,
and I was on my way,
that will do nicely,
we listened to a busker whilst we ate,
then time to start buying, strawberries but which one?
well these two,
looked nice,
one shop down two to go,
next stop the butchers for the chickens and Sunday roasts,
job done,
on to the fish mongers, for some smoked eel that we saw earlier,
shopping over,
we made our way to the exit,
and back towards the station,
our luck held out for the departing train and we were soon on our way past Millwall Football Club,
as before all of this walking made us thirsty, so a quick couple in O'Neill's
Diana made a move for home, but I popped down to the shop to have a chat with Graham, Lee and Carl,
in the evening we started with a smoked eel salad,
'Cheers!',
for our main course, a half of each seasoned chicken each, Diana's with chips,
mine with baby potatoes,
another 'Cheers!',
and for dessert strawberries, cream and meringue,
delicious, we listened to music for most of the evening, but rounded off the night with one more from Game of Thrones, and with that we were off to bed.
