for a change,
we decided on tea and sausage rolls,
instead of tea and cake,
for the fox, in the late afternoon,
a few more peanuts,
in the afternoon we watched a couple of game shows, one The Chase was particularly good, 3 contestants were trying for £20,000 each, but lost with just a few seconds to go, after 6.00 in the evening it was time for our evening meal, starting with a sherry,
for tonight it was spicy chicken for Diana, chili con carne for myself,
and to round off the meal, tiramisu with ice cream, 'Cheers!', we listened to music for most of the evening,
Diana had in the afternoon looked through a number of DVDs and decided on The China Syndrome, mix nuclear, cover
up and accident in the same sentence and you have a sure fire winner for
the paranoid population of the world, the tree huggers and greenies, but an
enjoyable film, which once again shows how safe nuclear energy is, provide you
keep people out of the loop, the title refers to the thought that if the core
was allowed to overheat where it was based in America it would melt its way
through the earth and emerge in China, we had the same thing in the UK where we
were told if the core of a nuclear power plant over heated the same thing
would happen, but the core would end up in Tasmania, a very
serious Jack Lemmon saves America
from a realistic nuclear meltdown, and in a strange case of life imitating a
film just 12 days after its release the 3 Mile Island incident occurred with as it happens a faulty valve, a stuck pressure
gauge, a lack of water in the pressure vessel gauge, (it was thought it was not
needed), and other failings included human ones, made the real life event
remarkably similar to the film, result? a tightening up of regulations and a
groundswell of anti nuclear feelings, with the end of that at near midnight we were off to bed.
