I Have Never Seen Flowers,

photographed like this before,

they are the work of 28-year-old photographer Craig Burrows who photographs plants and flowers using a type a photography called UVIVF or “ultraviolet-induced visible fluorescence.”

which brings out the glowing fluoresce in plant matter through the use of high-intensity UV lights,

typically UV is removed through a camera’s lens, however Burrows photographs with a 365nm LED light which is passed through a filter to transmit only UV and infrared light,

the dazzling plant life Burrows’ photographs absorbs this UV light and releases visible light at different wavelengths, which gives a totally different look to objects placed in the light,

if you want to know more about UVA this is an informative video, I could not find one that specifically uses the UVIVF mentioned at the beginning of the piece, so if you want to try do as Craig does go with his recommendation of using a 365nm LED light which is passed through a filter to transmit only UV and infrared light, You can see more of the Southern California-based photographer’s glowing plant portraits on his Flickr and portfolio site, what a totally new take on the natural world.
