despite or because of it's 100 year old flat tank look,
the motorcycle is brand new,
it is called the Sterling,
and manufactured by The Black Douglas Motorcycle Co. and takes over 200 man hours to produce one,
available in numerous options, not only in colour but you have the choice of engines,
colour schemes, lights and numerous other options, this model is called the Countryman Deluxe, it costs £6,170
(€7,900), and is powered by either a 125cc or 230cc single-cylinder air-cooled
pushrod engine manufactured by Zhongshen in China and based upon Honda the CG
platform. the 230cc
version is rated at 14hp @ 6,000rpm, just a couple of horsepower lower than the Royal Enfield we looked at a couple of days ago, the driving force behind
it is Benny Thomson who owns and runs the Monday Motorcycle Company in
Birmingham, England and apparently operates from an old custard factory, Thompson, who is heavily into 70s chops and Harley-Davidson customs, conceived
the notion of a modern flat tanker designed in the UK. He also built
the Mk1 version,
there are also two other engine sizes soon to be available, a 350cc, 400cc and an electric version are being
contemplated, also there are plans to cobble together an outfit and offer a board-track
style racer, and above this is the one for us, with a seat for Diana! would I like one? 100% Yes! and no I am not on commission.
