When Ever I Think Of The Northern Lights,

I always think of wispy green ethereal clouds at night,

the Aurora borealis, or as they are known in the south Aurora Australis, back to the north, tech YouTuber Timothy Joseph Elzinga was in for a big surprise when he gazed out his window last Friday night, awoken by his 2-year-old son at 1:30 am, Elzinga was about to settle back into bed when he noticed a strange sight,

until today I had never heard of them, the easy explanation, a light pillar is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in the form of a vertical band of light which appears to extend above and/or below a light source, the effect is created by the reflection of light from numerous tiny ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere or clouds, so I am guessing pretty much that the ice in most warmer places could be water-droplets and rainbows would result, in any event what an experience it must have been to see these ice pillars.
