Paper Folding,

but not like origami,

all images courtesy of Yulia Brodskaya, as you can see from this photograph of the detail of “Eagle of Light”

using folded paper, Yulia Brodskaya, creates birds in this series of artwork, “Things of Nature”

detail of “Things of Nature”

“Eagle of Light” the artists comments, “In my paper art practice, a drawn two-dimensional line is represented by a three-dimensional strip of paper glued on its edge,”

“Things of Nature” In “Nature of Things,” a kingfisher sits on the edge of a leaf, which goes through a metamorphosis into a geometric shape,

“Take Off”  “I was just sitting, observing its shape, following the curving lines with my eyes, and it didn’t take long to receive a vision of a superimposed toroidal shape…” she says, “like an organising principle that has always been there.”

also typography is a subject for the artists, you can find more of Brodskaya’s work on her website, and peek into her practice on Instagram, also there is a very helpful book if you want to make your own artwork,

from her website:

“I'm really excited to present my new book Painting with Paper: Paper on the Edge (also available in the US), and share everything I've learned (and, of course, continue learning) about quilling and paper art, this is not a project based book, but instead an insight into my creative process with practical tips on how to work with my methods in various ways of your own”

with cold winter nights looming could this be a winter hobby for you to try?
