I Have Seen Many Computer Games,

where you build cities or empires,

but here is one that is totally different,

you can play without the threat of natural disaster or the need to maintain characters’ emotional wellbeing,

in Malmo, Sweden-based game developer Oskar Stålberg launched Townscaper,

all you have is the option to delete or build with a certain colour, a function that’s controlled entirely by the algorithm,

the buildings themselves look pretty neat,

as do some of the cities you can build,

just drop a block and watch the system construct charming homes, towering cathedrals, and luxurious greenspaces. “No goal. No real gameplay. Just plenty of building and plenty of beauty. That’s it,” Stålberg writes,

Townscaper is currently available to download for $6, although it isn’t finished quite yet,

you can watch this comprehensive tutorial to get a better sense of the user experience, and follow Stålberg on Twitter to keep up with the latest developments, it looks so good I might even try it myself! I am just making this one 'other' post today, it is Diana's day off so we are out for the day.
