As Dead As A Dodo's Do-do,

is a favourite saying of mine,

screen shot credit PBS, to describe something totally and utterly extinct, but why and how did they go extinct? this fascinating video explains away so many misconceptions we have about the bird, although the video is longer the dodo bit ends at about 7 minutes, but here is the question, could they be brought back? I am thinking of species like the woolly mammoth and the thylacine that many scientist think could with gene editing, so could the Dodo also be added to that list that many would like to see reintroduced? here is an interesting article discussing just that, as it happens the article mentions using pigeon eggs, and use genetic material from pigeons that can be modified to reflect key traits of the dodo, and as mentioned in the video the Dodo is actually related to pigeons, now here is a thought, a flying Dodo, that is how it would avoid rats, cats and being caught!
