what is worse than being arrested because you look like an escaped criminal?
being arrested for the same thing twice, and worse still? being arrested for the same thing five times in three days! in
October of 2021, a criminal by the name of Zhu Xianjian managed to escape from
a prison in Northeast China’s Jilin Province. Authorities scrambled to locate
him, but after spending valuable and time and resources they were forced to
offer a 150,000 reward, at today's rate, £17,760.34 or $23.560.09 which was then bumped up to 700,000 yuan, at today's rate £82,903.33 or $109,950.83 for any
information on the fugitive’s whereabouts, bearing in mind that the average wage in China is only 2,000 yuan a month, £236.93 or $314.12 people were really keeping an eye out for Zhu,
the Global
Times reported the story, video footage shows the man wearing a blue jacket pictured
next to Zhu’s prison photo, and there is no denying that the two look very
similar, the fact that he shared the same facial features and even the same haircut as
Zhu didn’t help much either, photos of Zhu and the financial reward offered by authorities
for information on his whereabouts made news headlines on TV stations across
Jilin Province, making him a walking target, luckily,
the man’s nightmare ended on November 28, when Zhu Xianjian was finally
apprehended by police, with only two years to go from an eleven-year prison
sentence, Zhu is now looking at additional time behind bars after his
short prison break, here is a thought, I am sure that facial recognition camera would have caught the criminal, but would they have pinged his doppelganger, the innocent man?
