I Do Really Like,

the old fashioned lines of 1930s gentlemen's yachts,

like this one, by John Bain, a Silver class Ormidale, named Sea Quest, which as it happens we featured way back in December 2017,

so I was really interested when I saw this boat,

built by Netherlands-based yacht manufacturer KM Yachtbuilders, they have launched the Bestevaer 53 M/Y, a motor yacht with a minimalist design and an "understated elegance",

"It is quite a radical design statement in a world of slick bling look-alike motor yachts," KM Yachtbuilders said,

and I have to agree,

most of the moderen floating gin palaces I see do not appeal to me in the least,

"The only maintenance an unpainted aluminium hull needs is regular rinsing with water, which is partly why aluminium yachts retain their sales value even after decades of intensive use," added the brand,

Bestevaer 53 M/Y's interiors are designed by Christien Starkenburg, founder of Studio Slow, and made from natural materials including Danish wool by Kvadrat and brushed oak,

the yacht contains two cabins with en-suite bathrooms: a primary bedroom with a double bed and another with two single beds, "The Bestevaer 53 M/Y is a one-of-a-kind motor yacht that perfectly blends functionalist design with understated elegance," said KM Yachtbuilders, inside, Bestevaer 53 M/Y also features a 49-inch flatscreen TV and a luxury kitchen equipped with an electric hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge-freezer. The cabins also have central heating, air-conditioning, a dryer and storage space, for the technical:

Great yachts. Most of my friends and myself all had the dreams of freedom and sailing becoming blue water veterans. Problem was how to pay for the lifestyle and then retirement? I still have all the blue water sailing books and many about living well while living a carefree life upon the open sea..and world. I missed that dream but today’s youth have a chance at this wonderful adventure given remote internet work abilities. Guess you would have to use a satellite application for communication but the unknowns of the blue water still ask me to sea. Too old now, a potential missed opportunity or, did I get hit and sunk by a huge container ship in a shipping lane? Many go that way without a trace. We will never know but all of us have the sparkle in the eye of a dream in youth that was magic and a window into the unknown areas on the edge of the maps that have dragons and monsters. Stan-thanks for reviving another dream and memory of what could be but now we sit in our castles and sip gin in old age….in stead of motoring in our Gin Castles of yesteryear. Thanks for the great memories of youth and what we dreamed we could do!
Happy New Year To You Both and healthy, happy times forward,

Dear John and Alley, it is so nice to dream, but unless you have the funds and do not have to work that is all it could be, just the running cost of a boat at say 10 knots I guess is going to be about a gallon to a mile and then there is the price of the booze! "full ahead both and bring me a pink gin!" all the very bet for the New Year, Stan and Diana.
