Is This A Childs Toy,

or a executive plaything?

designed by Nara-based design studio A4, tumi-isi (積み石; ‘stacking stones’ in Japanese),

these are a set of 5 blocks individually hand cut with a band saw into asymmetrical shapes by local artisans,

nicely presented the object is to stack the stones as high as you can,

but here is the thing, no 2 sets are the same,

originally designed back in 2008, the tumi-isi blocks have gone on to win numerous design awards from Japan’s prestigious Good Design Awards to the Good Toy Awards,

taking blocks of selected wood,

the artist cuts each using a band saw, every block is unique,

so are you up to the balancing challenge? the blocks are available in 2 finishes, Tumi-Isi Wooden Stacking Rocks (colour mix) $174.00,

or Tumi-Isi Wooden Stacking Rocks (hardwood mix) $214.00, and are available here, it seems such a simple idea, I almost wonder why no one has thought of this before, or perhaps they have?
