where we are in the UK it is fairly rare,
screen shots courtesy of LightningMaps.org but I was intrigued when I saw this lightning map of the world, each lightning bolt recorded just seconds after it happens, amazing!
looking at the map this area seems to be particularly active at the moment, the map is a grab and move with your cursor and zoom in using the mouse wheel, well that works for me,
