I Found A Nice Couple Of Books,

the first by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,

a first edition of The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, published: London 1894 by George Newnes, Illustrated with its original binding,

size: 9.5" by 7.5" Pagination: [5], 2-279pp

this iconic Sherlock Holmes collection is profusely illustrated by Sidney Paget,

originally, these twelve stories were printed in 'The Strand Magazine' from December 1892 to December 1893. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, 'Mabel Ellis 6 Dec 21 1893'. Arthur Conan Doyle was determined for this collection to be the final Holmes stories, and Sherlock Holmes' death was written into 'The Final Problem'. However, following demand from the public he wrote 'The Hound of The Baskervilles' which is set prior to 'The Final Problem. Subsequently, a new series 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes' appeared. The short stories to this work include: "Silver Blaze", "The Yellow Face", " The Stockbroker's Clerk", " The Gloria Scott", "the Musgrave Ritual", "The Reigate Squire", "The Crooked Man", "The Resident Patient", "The Greek Interpreter", "The Naval Treaty" and "The Final Problem", what a great selection of his works, yours for £1,975.00,

a film that I have watched more than a few times is Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

the film is based on the writings of Patrick O'Brian, although not a really old book, published in 1984, it is still of interest to myself,

it is Patrick O'Brian's tenth in the Aubrey-Maturin series, an immensely popular navy historical fiction sequence,

this first edition in the publishers' original binding, with price-clipped dust wrapper, with the publisher's price sticker of £9.95 to the front flyleaf, if only I had bought the book when I was 34 years old when it was published, now yours for £680.00, click on the prices for more information about the books, also you can visit Rooke Books to see what else they have to offer.
