I should mention that I am only making one post today,
as there are so many photographs, today we were out before lunch,
we made our way through the park and under the cherry blossom,
to the 227 bus stop,
in no time at all we were at the entrance of Crystal Palace Park,
and walking inside, every Sunday there is a food fair, I guess for the summer time,
the first seller was an ice cream van, but although it was sunny it was decidedly cold when the sun was obscured by clouds and the wind blew,
in the distance the food fair,
now here is an idea, we might pop up here one evening,
the new café in the park now completed,
and open for outside drinkers and dinners,
we started looking at the food stalls,
such a variety,
some we will be calling back to,
others we stopped at straight away!
Diana walking past a cake stall?
no way, a slice of the red cake please!
the first of many bags we will be collecting,
I was so tempted by the cob nuts, then forgot about them,
I said we would be back to this stall,
whilst Diana was waiting for her order,
I had a look at some of the other nearby stalls, this stall selling food from Malaysia,
and this one from the UK,
order ready to be collected,
and we were on our way,
I thought this was a neat stall,
it had its own trailered oven,
and then we saw it,
there was no walking past this stall!
Diana was spoilt for choice,
it all looked so good,
the aroma was making us both feel hungry,
we continued our walk,
past the fresh fish stall, I was tempted to buy some scallops, but we had already bought the ingredients for our Sunday lunch,
we were nearing the end of the stalls,
this one specialising in fresh produce,
did I fancy a beer?
no actually,
opposite, this van was selling draft bubbly,
a peekaboo,
and a 'Cheers!'',
there was no eating in the stalls area,
so we walked outside,
where drinking,
eating,
was allowed,
delicious!
benches had been put out,
but nowhere near enough of them, so if you plan to picnic here be sure to bring something to sit on,
we then started to walk around the park,
stopping for a pose of course,
the park had been worked on since out last visit,
this area being cleaned out,
and landscaped,
the locals,
and their offspring seemed to approve,
it was a glorious day,
but every so often,
those pesky clouds made their presence known,
looking down,
a few ducklings were foraging for food,
and here is Mum with her brood of 5 of them,
we were soon insight of the first of the dinosaurs,
most are on an island,
more than a few years ago, this was a crashing waterfall,
but it is now no longer in use,
my first visit here was in the 1950s,
when the dinosaurs were in a terrible state after years of neglect,
after that funds were found to repair and paint them,
but since then although now protected,
and they have been re-repaired,
sadly they have not been repainted,
which is a shame as I remember them looking much better than they do now in concreate grey,
a new bridge has recently been completed,
allowing for access to the island for maintenance,
this tree looks like it has been in the wars,
its trunk fractured and split,
a few water birds called by,
this looks like fun, although not as adventurous as in my day,
these boats are all battery powered, in my day if you did not know how to row, you spent your time going round in circles!
Diana snapping away,
the sun was out again,
a quick panorama,
in the distance the Crystal Palace mast,
just our luck, as we were going home the clouds cleared!
a last look at the new café, and we were on our way home,
and just in time for a late read and sherry,
one of the reasons apart from our visit to the park for the late Sunday lunch was that I had bought an enormous chicken, which took over 2 hours to cook, any bigger and it would have been called a turkey!
for our starters a avocado prawn cocktail which Diana then sprinkled chopped spring onions over which gave it a really nice addition,
having started the bubbly in the park,
we continued at home,
easy does it,
perfect,
naturally one for Diana as well,
Diana had a chicken leg and lots of the street food she bought in the park,
roast chicken sans gravy for myself,
another 'Cheers!', before dessert,
to round the meal off a strawberry cream roll, covered in double cream with fresh raspberry's,
and a final 'Cheers!',
by now it was early evening so time for feet up for our first film, we had just this week bought Lawrence of Araibia, Diana asked to watch the film last week, but the DVD we had of the film was so poor we bought a Blu-ray version of it, and it was superb!
we also bought Jojo Rabbit, so we just had to watch the Blu-ray of that as well, in a few months time we will be returning to watch Jojo Rabbit again, we first watched the film last November, and again today, and we will watch it again on Sunday 29th August, it is just our sort of film, from the blurb for the August showing in the park:
Join us at the Film & Food Fest South London and immerse yourself in the wild imaginary world of 'Jojo Rabbit'.
"Hitler Youth cadet Jojo Betzler firmly believes in the ideals of Nazism manifested by his imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler. However, his foundations are shaken when he finds a Jewish girl in his house."
Arrive early and sample some delicious street food from a wide range of local vendors, and enjoy a pint, prosecco, or speciality cocktail from one of the bars. Sit back and watch the short films and laugh along with the stand-up comedian before the main showing on our huge LED cinema screen.
VIP tickets already booked!
and with the end of that we were off to bed.
