Rabbits Are In The News Again,

well at least here are a few featured in a sport that I have just seen,

we only mentioned rabbits last Sunday that were hand standing, and here we are today show jumping them! rabbit show jumping started in Sweden in the 1970s with rules that were based on horse show jumping. Soon the rules were changed to make them better for bunnies, the picture is from a contest in Sweden in 2007, photograph Thowra_ukvia Flickr.com, it works like this, each rabbit is led around a course by its owner, using a special leash and harness. In a straight course, the rabbits hop over several jumps made of stacked bars that fall off if the rabbits jump too low. In another event, sometimes called “rabbit agility”, the rabbits don’t only jump. They must also make it across or through several “obstacles”, such as ramps, bridges, and tunnels,

the above picture is from a contest in Vancouver, Canada in 2018 Tjflex2via Flickr.com, the rabbits are usually trained with food rewards and a few gentle pushes in the right direction to help them learn what to do, but often rabbits don’t need lots of training, since running and jumping are things they like to do anyway, it appears we like to hop as well, I am sure many of us at my sort of age can still remember the Bunny Hop,

yes it really was a dance! and in case you were thinking rabbits have all of the fun,

guinea pigs also have their own show jumping races, do not get me started on racing bulldogs!
