The Second Part Of Our Day In Cambridge,

we were nearing the lagoon,

where another one of the punt hiring offices were located,

this where the punts made a U turn,

which looked a lot easier,

than it was,

unless you were a professional,

like Theo,

or this chap,

it was just so picture book,

we started our turn,

thankfully the rain still holding off,

we neared the far bank,

these are not a part of the art trail, these are real ones!

looking on,

what a lovely riverside public house,

and a great view of the river,

we were coming back towards the Mathematical Bridge,

all of the time we were informed of the history of the buildings,

as we made our way back,

I mentioned these small and bricked up windows,

it was all down to the hated Window Tax,

finally abolished in 1851,

so sunlight was again free for all to enjoy,

we made our way back,

both of us enjoying every moment of the trip,

one of the triple arched bridges came into view,

the floating bar still doing a roaring trade,

the skies still cloudy,

as we made our way back,

under another bridge,

'Duck!'

easy when you know how,

a bit of a traffic jam ahead,

soon sorted out,

mooring strictly,

prohibited,

geese exempt,

not too far now,

which was a shame as it was so nice,

past the buildings,

and willows,

nearly forgot to duck myself!

it was all so peaceful,

and then,

a little piece of drama, soon sorted,

well fairly soon,

we are getting near to the end of our journey,

as we near the last of the bridges,

and there it is,

the Bridge of Sighs,

we pass underneath,

just a few minutes to go,

but nearing the beginning,

it means you can look at people,

who have just hired their punt,

and have not quiet yet,

got the hang of it,

resulting in the odd slow motion minor collision,

the good news,

no one fell in!

and here we were,

back at base,

just waiting for a place to dock,

back on land,

a huge 'thank you' to Theo who gave us such an informative and easy going history of the river and its buildings,

it was defiantly an a OK!

we walked over the bridge to the other side of town,

now this is something you do not see every day, a leathersmith,

we walked to the corner then turned around,

and made our way back through town,

taking a different route,

a quick look in here,

no nothing today,

I was intrigued by this bicycle,

with its solid wheels,

just around the corner,

with some really nice dresses for sale,

all very twee,

and in the right setting,

so attractive, but they were not to Diana's taste, but I thought they looked cute,

we had not been in this street before,

or seen this art work,

I have no idea what this door leads to, but it certainly is impressive,

lots of bicycles, but very few riders,

we passed this street corner,

and chanced upon a guided tour,

lots of shops,

and in one a cow that makes up the cow art trail,

a strange place to have a window, right on the corner of the building,

on this corner a statue,

strange chimneys,

we were in the main square,

and its imposing buildings,

Diana passing another art work,

they were everywhere,

another quick detour,

in here,

it was too much to expect to see my old school tie in here,

a look in the gift shop,

and we were on our way again,

heading towards the station,

what a great day,

and it was not over yet, just look at this clock,

what an amazing timepiece,

and here another cow,

on the art trail,

we then chanced upon an open market with local produce,

onward,

for a look in a few other shops,

I recognised where we were now,

past the double telephone boxes,

I am not sure if they still work, I did not look that closely,

past,

both churches near the station that we passed earlier,

we just had to stop here,

for a few nibbles on the way home,

they will do nicely,

all set and we were off,

the station in the distance,

past the bar and television,

and here we are at the station,

all we had to do was take the train from Cambrodge to London Bridge,

then change to the train that goes to Beckenham Junction, but, a big but, arriving at London Bridge, remember my problems with electrics? all trains to Beckenham Junction were cancelled due to a electrical fault! so we had to catch a train to Petts Wood, then change and start back to London getting off at Beckenham Junction 4 stations later, what is it with me and electrics? but it did not spoil a really great day out, arriving home it was feet up for a Lewis, and a New Tricks before we were off to bed.
